March 25, 2018, at the HITS horse show in Saugerties, New York was anything but an ordinary day. Beezie Madden aboard her mount Simon, determinedly won the HITS CP $1 Million FEI 5* Grand Prix, taking home a $330,000 check. This team was the only ones clear, over Steve Stephens course.

Thousands filled the stand watching Beezie place her speedy 88.320 second time to capture the win. It was clear when the class started that the course required an enormous amount of not only athletic ability but also mental strength.

The crowd became eager, looking for a clear round but the next twenty-six riders did not go clear. Beezie Madden, thirty-third in the order, entered the ring with willpower in her eyes, never swerving from her focus to win. “I think it was a difficult course. I thought so even when we walked it,” said Madden.

Then, two-time Million winner McLain Ward aboard Rothchild came into the ring, and everyone knew he would give Madden a battle for the money. Excited to achieve his third $1 Million Grand Prix win, he ran through the course but had a rail down.

All over the stadium, Madden’s smile lit up the show, as she entered for her victory gallop. “Simon went beautifully. The round went pretty much exactly as I wanted it to and he tried his heart out. I couldn’t be happier with him,” said Madden. “I’ve had him for three years and that was one of our best rounds ever.” Beezie Madden truly showed how to bring mental and athletic power to the table while surrounded with so much pressure. We wish her the best of luck in all her future competitions this summer.
